Japanese Stoneware Sueki Box, ~600 CE

Sueki or Sue ware 400-700 CE High-fired blue-gray stoneware. This state-of-the stoneware type was developed in Japan and Korea simultaneously and together for centuries. Specifically, in Korea at the time was the Silla Kingdom (57 BCE – 935 CE) that controlled the side of Korea adjacent to Japan. You can see a contemporaneous Silla piece here.
