Celadon
Home / / Celadon

The secret to celadon glaze is in the particular shade of green. More pleasing, more jade-like shades of green glaze were sought after for centuries, as were the lighter blues like ‘clear sky after rain’ 雨過天晴.

Celadons had their heyday in China from 400-1300 CE, but were surpassed in production quantity by blue-and-white porcelain starting in the Yuan and early Ming (1300s).

Korean ceramicists continued chasing the celadon dragon, perfecting a very specific range of blue-green hues and making it a cornerstone of Korean ceramics from the 1200s to today.
